How to enlarge holes in brackets & tabs, the easy way!
We often field the question "how do I drill out a bracket or tab to fit a larger bolt?". The answer is easy if you have a drill press (preferred) or hand drill! Get yourself a set of Unibit/Step Drills.
If the tab is too thick to drill through in 1 shot you can simply flip it and continue from the opposite side. A nice feature of the step drill is it will leave a countersink on your hole for a clean finish.
Step drills will also drill a clean and chatter free hole - try that with a 5/8" or 3/4" drill bit in a hobby sized drill press, the results won't exactly be a round hole!
The majority of our tabs have a 1/2" or 9/16" hole, with the above tip you can easily enlarge them to run larger fasteners if needed!
